Get to know Furniture Finesse: York's one-stop shop for all your home decorating needs

>By Our York Media

Susie Mummert doesn’t worry when she hears customers say they’re going to shop around at some of the “big box” stores in the area.

She knows they’ll come back to Furniture Finesse, her downtown York interior-design shop, because her comparable prices and superior customer service can’t be beat.

“I can help you save money and gain value,” Susie said.

Whether you’re looking for energy-efficient window coverings or shopping for unique home accessories that make a statement, Mummert and the experienced staff at Furniture Finesse can help. Seasoned designers will guide you through each step of the process and make sure you’re satisfied with the results. Walk in a stranger and leave a member of the family.

“I want people to build a relationship with us. We have that make-you-feel-good kind of presence,” she said. “Who doesn’t want to feel good about spending their money? It’s too hard to earn.”

Here are a few things you need to know about York County’s one-stop shop for all of your interior-design needs.

On how Furniture Finesse began...

Furniture Finesse began as Windows, Walls, Wicker and Whatever in 1983. Customers could find window treatments, wallpaper, wicker and rattan products and other home accessories in the small shop. Over the years, the business expanded into more retail space until it became incorporated as Furniture Finesse in 1997.

Furniture Finesse and Helf the Carpetman, a fourth-generation business owned by Susie’s brother, are under one roof and part of one family.

“We’re a strong family unit,” Susie said.

Her sister-in-law, Joyce Helf, has been an asset to the company as a buyer, a showroom coordinator and an in-store decorator since the mid-1980s.

About three years ago, Paula Pryor started taking on designing, decorating and in-home consultation duties. Although she isn’t technically a member of the family, she has become instrumental in many aspects of the shop. Paula has an extensive background in interior decorating and home re-styling.

On being an active member of the York community…

Susie Mummert, a 1980 graduate of West York High School, has been with Furniture Finesse in York for more than 30 years. During that time, she has become an active member of the York community and believes it’s important to give back to the community where she can.

If her installers take down blinds while working on a project and the blinds are still functional, she donates them to York Helping Hands, ReSource York or Bell Family Shelter.

Susie belongs to the Buy Local Coalition and the Women’s Network of York, and she recently joined the Garden Club of York.

She also shares her love of skiing with fellow members of the York Ski Club.

On being a Hunter Douglas gallery dealer…

Furniture Finesse is the only place in York County where you can find a genuine Hunter Douglas window fashions gallery.

You’ll find 30-plus displays in the Furniture Finesse showroom, including every product and lifting systems for blinds. Hunter Douglas products are made in the United States and include a wide array of child- and pet-friendly options, as well as energy-efficient and green designs.

Susie has been working for more than three years to become a Hunter Douglas gallery dealer. “They are the elite in the industry,” she said.

The fact that Hunter Douglas chose Furniture Finesse to be the only gallery dealer in York County speaks volumes. Susie earned the honor of being able to offer and showcase their quality products because her store is the best in the region.

“Do yourself a favor and compare. It’s to your advantage,” Susie said. “We have premiere products available at affordable prices.”
